What is on
Why come
Four hundred tonnes of stone go down on the access tracks every April so the bank and the lane stay rideable in the wet. It is the single biggest line in our budget and most years it rains anyway.
A ridden-in day is thirteen pounds against seventeen. We undercut our own gate on purpose, because the people who turn up soaked in April are the ones the trade should be talking to.
Heated racks for gloves, boots and one-piece suits, with two people looking after them all weekend. It earns nothing, it costs us the wages, and it is why anyone comes back in the afternoon.
Three working fabricators pick the winner and no sponsor gets a vote. We have turned down trade money twice to keep it that way, which is two stands we did not sell.
“Rode up from Kidderminster in filthy rain, 68 miles, and had dry gloves handed back to me at two. Ended up on a trials bike for the first time at 43 and fell off in front of my own daughter.”
